North Carolina Concealed Handgun Training Course

North Carolina has in place a Concealed Carry Handgun law that allows qualifying citizens of our state the opportunity to obtain a permit to carry a concealed handgun. As a provision of this legislation, the individual must complete a required training program in the use of deadly force, carrying a concealed handgun and demonstrate proficiency in the use of the handgun.

With the right under law to carry a concealed handgun comes a tremendous responsibility. The owner of a handgun must have complete knowledge of handgun safety, knowledge of the laws regarding use of force, and the ability to use the weapon safely and in a responsible manner. Finally, and most importantly, is the ability to use good judgment in any facet of handgun operation and use. whether in self-defense, practicing the fundamentals of marksmanship, or basic gun handling.

The Concealed Carry Certificate Class consists of:

A state mandated minimum of eight hours of instruction + the range qualification time

Legal Issues - the legal block of instruction is a minimum of 2 hours long

A written legal examination is required

A shooting proficiency examination is required; the course of fire is a 30 round minimum

10 rounds from the 3-yard line

10 rounds from the 5-yard line

10 rounds from the 7-yard line

Requirements to Apply for a Concealed Carry Permit:

Must be 21 years old
-
Complete a required training program in the use of deadly force, carrying a concealed handgun and demonstrate proficiency in the use of the handgun

Apply to the Sheriff’s Office in your county of residence
